Thank you so much for our call today, Rita. It was so wonderful getting to know you and hearing your story. I put this page together as a resource from everything we chatted about... I hope it's something you and Ray can go through together. Also, I would love to join you next week for the venue walk if that works for you — just let me know, it would be a pleasure to be there.
01
Everything I learned about you today that will shape how I photograph your wedding.
Rita
28 years old by the wedding. Dad is Guatemalan, mom is Nicaraguan. Grew up between cultures, and it shows in the warmth she carries.
Ray
27 years old by the wedding. From Nicaragua. Easy energy, and clearly very loved.
Their story
They met in San Francisco in college... which is almost the same story as Rita's parents, who also met in San Francisco. Eight years together. Ray proposed in Napa, during a relaxed weekend in wine country. They love wine. It's one of those things that's very theirs. They even got engagement photos during the trip.
"A couple who found each other the same way their parents did, in the same city... there's already a story here worth telling carefully."
02
These are the things I'll carry with me into your wedding day.
Photography style
Vintage film. Cinematic. Candid over posed. They responded strongly to my aesthetic and want that same feeling carried throughout their day.
How they like to be photographed
They prefer candid and natural moments over forced poses. Gentle direction that creates space for real emotion, not a rigid shot list.
A note on skin tone
Rita and Ray both have beautiful darker skin tones, and this is something they've thought about. In past photos, they felt their skin came out looking too yellow. I take this seriously. Editing for darker skin means knowing where to hold warmth and where to pull back, how to expose for their actual skin rather than for a bright background, and how to make sure they look like themselves. This is part of my job, and I'm glad they brought it up.
Reference
Rita is going to send over their engagement gallery so I can see the style they loved and note what they'd like to do differently.

Here's how the day is shaping up. I'll build my shooting plan around this once the timeline is confirmed.
Approximately one hour. A beautiful, storied venue in the heart of Antigua.
After the ceremony, we'll have three dedicated hours for photos. I'll choose locations that make sense for the day, including time at Hermita de Santa Cruz and other spots around Antigua. This is where we breathe, explore, and make the images that will last.
Running until approximately 11 PM. Full coverage through the end of the evening.
Guest count
Approximately 50 to 65 guests. Intimate enough to feel personal, lively enough to fill a frame beautifully.
Wedding planner
Their event planner is also named Gaby, and she's actually the one who referred me to them. I'm looking forward to working alongside her on the day.
Videographer
Rita and Ray would love to have documentary-style video coverage of their wedding. I'll share a short list of videographers I trust and can recommend in Antigua so they have solid options to explore.

gabrielasaponphotography.comUntil we meet
Next week, when we walk through the venue together, I'll start to see your day the way I'll photograph it. The light, the spaces, the way it all connects. And the possibility of being there on April 3rd, 2027... of documenting the beginning of your next chapter together. That's the part of this work that never gets ordinary for me.
